In my dayjob – at a software company – I help approve uploaded images of users (checking to make sure photos actually help identify users). As a consequence, I find myself periodically viewing small slices of others’ lives. Some are mundane moments – a person simply looking at the camera. However, many capture small moments of others living life in their own way. And sometimes I find my heart aching to live life similarly.
In the age of social media it’s easy to quickly become lost in a world where jealousy exists at the click of a button or tap of a finger. However, sometimes seeing slices of others’ lives simply points me to to look at my own life. Examine myself.
Am I taking each moment in? When I watch Hijo giggle and run across the room waiting for my excited chase to pursue, do I take just a moment to make sure I’m in that moment. When I’m woken up at 2:37 in the morning due to a coughing and miserable son who needs medicine, do I take even just a moment to appreciate life? To appreciate that I have this amazing child and wife who love me and live life with me?
Sometimes life is lived in the big grandiose moments. Weddings. Funerals. Epic family vacations. But more often than not it’s lived in the small mundane moments. Excited greetings when I come home from work. Gently giving medicine at 2:37 in the morning. Small little slices of life.
So look inside yourself today. Are you enjoying – even just a little bit – each small moment. Even when life is tough, what can you appreciate in it? How will you take each moment for its best?
